Play Holi Safely – Know Useful Tips & Trending Hacks For Youth

Note down a few safety tips and trending hacks to ensure that your Holi is fun-filled.

1. Before You Begin, Stay Hydrated

It gets hot and tiring as you play. Make sure to drink enough water to stay cool and hydrated. A number of people suffer from heat stroke because they do not drink enough water. Carry a small water bottle that is refillable and drink water often.

2. Use Of Calamine Lotion For Skin

If you do have sensitive skin and it does get exposed to any color which may cause it to develop any rash-like symptoms, be sure to wash the area properly and apply calamine lotion. It is a good idea to have a simple first aid box nearby with some skin ointments or creams in case it is needed.

3. Shield Your Hair

Holi colors not only stick to skin, but can also affect your hair as well. Be sure to use protective measures like hats/caps, nets, or even shower caps to keep your hair from getting too affected by the colors.

4. Peak Hours Of Celebrations

The peak hours of the festival celebrations can get a little rough. For women and children this might not be the optimal time to play Holi. Try to stay at home or in a safe area during the peak times. Avoid wandering off in the roads as people can get a little riled up when playing Holi.

5. Be Eco-Friendly, Use Organic/Natural Colors

Many of the colors used in Holi tend to contain harsh chemicals which can cause problems to skin. Ensuring that the colors you use come from natural or organic products can definitely prevent any allergies or skin issues and is also a great way to take care of the environment as well.

6. Wear Shades, Protect Your Eyes/Lips/Teeth/Face

Colored powders and water used in Holi oftentimes stains the skin. However, it can also get onto your lips and teeth and leave discoloration. This becomes problematic when people are sensitive and run developing an allergy. Furthermore, getting colors into your eyes can also irritate them. For those who use contact lenses, be sure to remove them before playing Holi. Try to use sunglasses and cover your lips and teeth to avoid any color entering.

7. Apply Oil/Lotion Before Playing Holi and Use Sunscreen

It has been noted that applying a significant amount of oil or lotion to your skin and hair will help the colors to not stick your skin and hair. Be sure to apply liberal amounts of oil to your hair and skin to help the clean up process go faster as well. Before stepping outside, make sure that you have on plenty of sunscreen.

8. Avoid Dry Colors If Prone To Asthma or Allergic To Dust/Pollen

It goes without saying that people with health issues such as asthma or dust allergies should avoid dry color powders. This may aggravate their conditions. So better avoid dry colors.

9. Maintain Distance From Bonfires (Holika)

There are enough injuries reported related to bonfires. Especially if there are young children around, it is important to keep an eye on them so that no one is hurt accidentally.

10. Avoid Throwing Balloons Filled With Colored Water On Anyone

Many people fill water balloons with colored water and throw them on others. People get hurt when balloons are thrown at them. In order to ensure a fun and safe Holi, it is better to avoid these altogether.
