Revealed- How The Youth Can Survive The Blue Whale Era

The Blue Whale challenge is one that has been taking the world by storm resulting in a slew of suicides across the globe. The Russian developers of the challenge have been arrested but there appears to be more curators of the game in hiding. Is blue whale a concern for the Indian youth? Of course! India has witnessed about half a dozen causalities as a result of this Blue Whale challenge and parents have been advised to lockdown their children’s mobile use. The challenge is known to be sent as a link through social media and is known to prey on depressed teens and students.

The trend has challenged parents and youngsters alike to redefine their safety measures on their cell phones and has shaken the world to realize the darkness of cyberspace. But despite all the awareness, how can the youth save themselves from the grasp of the Blue Whale curators?

  1. Talking About Depression: Depression is real and people are beginning to realize that it should be dealt with openly and with no scope for judgement. If you know a friend who is depressed, inform their loved ones and get them to understand. The Blue Whale challenge turns the individuals against the world by feeding their insecurities and the gaping hole in their hearts.

  2. Noticing Self Harm: The challenge encourages individuals to inflict harm upon themselves. The signs can be cuts, carvings on the skin, or a whale image carved onto their forearm.

  3. Strange Walks: The challenge asks individuals to walk to dangerous sites at odd times. Keep an eye out for such behavior.

  4. Pink Whale: As an initiative to combat the Blue Whale challenge, pink whale was designed in Bangalore as a challenge to promote self-love. This is a game that is worthy of going viral.

  5. Don’t take ‘I am fine’ for an answer: Sometimes we know when a friend is depressed or acting strangely. When confronted, they may just ask us to leave or insist that they are fine. Give them space, but never leave them unattended. Remind them that they are loved.

Though we spend many hours on the internet sharing funny memes and comedy bits, it is important to educate yourself on the dark side too, so that we may never fall prey and also help those in need. Stay Alert!!!
