The Year 2018 has witnessed some of the biggest names in Bollywood coming together in holy matrimony. We witnessed Sonam Kapoor start off her wedded bliss in style with a classy wedding and as the year progressed, the names added to the ‘hitched’ list just got bigger and the celebrations got wilder! Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi garnered a lot of media attention for their wedding followed by Anushka Sharma with Virat Kohli and Dipika Padukone with Ranveer Singh who both held the nation’s fans captivated by their Sabyasachhi lehengas and royal princess like destination weddings. The most recent wedding, which seemed to surpass all in terms of lavish fun, frolic and even a bit of controversy, is Priyanka Chopra’s Hollywood infused Bollywood wedding to her now-husband Nick Jonas.
There is a section of the youth who are looking to these star weddings and romances while taking notes to incorporate some wedding ideas and inspirations into their own nuptials. So, how good is this influence on the minds of the youth?
As the old saying goes, too much of anything is never a good thing and hence, the answer lies in how far the youth are obsessed with these weddings and how they influence their own realities. There are some of the younger generations who take all these at face value and admire the celebrations while keeping their own expectations under a reality check. On the other hand, we have individuals who are obsessed enough to want to replicate every detail in order to appease their whim of being a ‘star’ for a day while forgetting that we all are our own stars in our own right.
While the threat of young obsession is very real, especially in social media, one cannot disregard the positive influences that these weddings have. These wedding set fashion statements in the wedding market and help influence trends. Having said that, we must also remember that weddings are beyond material aspects. Weddings help all of us believe in love, union, and family. And on that positive note may we wish all the celebrity couples who tied the knot this year a happy married life with many years of love to come.
On this note, just frankly asking, when are you getting married?
