Cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) are spreading all over the world at an alarming rate. To protect themselves and people around, some folks have been sharing facts whereas some are spreading rumors to spark fear amid the panic. As COVID-19 is a deadly disease, therefore, it is crucial to separate facts from rumors, and hence, Babendude experts presenting you with a list of myths, rumors about COVID -19 and facts against them.

  • Myth- Consuming Garlic can help fight off COVID-19

Fact- Though Garlic has some antimicrobial properties, so far it is not evident that consumption of garlic helps in overcoming the life-threatening COVID-19. So as of now, it is fair to conclude that garlic does NOT help to fight against Coronavirus.

  • Myth – Practicing Yoga can prevent COVID-19

Fact – With the ever-increasing count of Coronavirus cases, people have been circulating videos all around the world to practice Yoga which can be helpful to combat Coronavirus infection. This is a myth to spread out to the world as it is not claimed by any professional doctor or medical practitioner. Yoga, for certain, can keep a person healthy and fit but it cannot prevent COVID-19 disease.

  • Myth – Antibiotics can prevent the novel Coronavirus

Fact- Antibiotics do not work against the Coronavirus pandemic. Antibiotics help to fight bacterial infection and thus, it cannot prevent Coronavirus.

  • Myth- Mosquito bites can spread the novel Coronavirus

Fact- Mosquito bites do not spread novel Coronavirus. COVID-19 spreads through water droplets when a person coughs or sneezes. Hence, it wouldn’t be wise to say that mosquitoes are vectors of the new Coronavirus.

  • Myth- COVID-19 does not spread in hot and humid weather

Fact- New Coronavirus can impact individuals in any weather. The best way to prevent it is to wash hands after regular intervals and use the best protective measures.

  • Myth- Thermal Scanners can always detect COVID-19 infection

Fact- Thermal scanners can detect only those people who have fever due to COVID-19 infection. It cannot detect people who are infected but are not showing any symptoms of fever.

  • Myth- Vaccines against pneumonia can help in fighting the infection

Fact- Since the Novel Coronavirus is new and has been rising rapidly, existing vaccines cannot help to prevent it.

  • Myth- COVID-19 cannot infect everyone

Fact- COVID-19 doesn’t discriminate. It can infect anyone from any ethnic or geographical background. A rumor that people from Chinese or Asian are more likely to get an infection is false.

  • Myth- Quarantine is for those who are infective or have Coronavirus symptoms

Fact- Quarantine means separating people or a group of people who have been in contact with already infected people but do not show any symptoms of the disease. This is done to prevent the possible spread of the disease. Quarantine is done all through the incubation period which is the time frame in which a person begins to show symptoms of the disease. In COVID-19 case, the period is of 14 days from the day of exposure. So, a quarantined person does not spread it because that person isn’t infected.

  • Myth- Infected person cannot infect a nearby healthy person

Fact- People in close contact with an already infected person or people who have recently been in an area where people are infected are more likely to get an infection.

Facts and Preventive Measures

  1. Coronavirus spreads through water droplets from the nose or mouth of an infected person when he coughs or sneezes. These droplets land on various objects around the person. Healthy people then catch COVID-19 by touching the objects and then touching their eyes, mouth or nose.
  2. Social Distancing helps prevent the spread of Coronavirus. It is advised to maintain at least 3 feet of distance from sick people.
  3. Washing hands thoroughly with soap and water at least for 20 seconds helps to beat the infection.
  4. Self-Isolation by staying at home must be followed sincerely to reduce the spread of infection. Stay at home if you are sick
  5. Maintaining personal hygiene is important. Cover your mouth with a tissue paper when you sneeze or cough and then throw the tissue in the trash. Don’t touch your eyes, nose, mouth with unwashed hands.
